Sea Kayak Day Guide / Lodge Host

We are seeking a certified Level 1 SKGABC guide to be part of a small team that provides kayak guiding and guest services at Discovery Islands Lodge, near Surge Narrows at the remote north end of Quadra Island. Discovery Islands Lodge is owned and operated by Coast Mountain Expeditions, a local/family company that has been operating since 1987.
The “Day Guide & Lodge Host” job is a full-time position. You will primarily work with a crew of 2-3 people leading half and full-day kayak tours in the Surge Narrows Marine Park, but will also help with lodge duties, including assisting the lodge host with breakfast preparation, renting equipment, and providing information to lodge guests.
Basic on-site shared accommodation is provided – no commute! – and you’ll be living a stone’s throw from a tidal rapids playground, hiking trails and swimming lakes. Your co-workers are experienced, friendly and enthusiastic individuals who make work fun – and play hard when there’s time. Our ideal candidate is personable, attentive to detail, and eager to be part of a dedicated team. Knowledge of coastal marine ecology is an asset.
Season: June – late September (start and end dates somewhat flexible).
5 days/week
Please send your cover letter and resume to: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

Lodge Host / Kitchen Assistant

We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual to work as a lodge host and kitchen assistant at our Quadra Island and Read Island wilderness kayaking lodges.

The successful lodge host applicant will spend 3 days/week running the day-to-day business of Discovery Islands Lodge, our off-grid B&B kayak lodge on Quadra Island. In addition to welcoming guests and providing local knowledge, duties of the lodge host include cooking and serving breakfast, housekeeping, payment processing, and managing kayak and equipment rentals. This is an early morning shift: 7:00am – 3:30pm.

The successful applicant will also spend 2 days/week assisting cooks at our Coast Mountain Lodge on Read Island with kayak trip food preparation and packing.

Our ideal applicant is friendly, self-motivated, and enthusiastic to learn and share information about the local area. Strong cooking and kitchen skills are critical; time spent as a professional cook is an asset, but not a requirement.

Accommodation is provided free of charge throughout the season.
